  • The Wisdom of Water

Our minds are often not so tranquil and clear in the course of their journey.  I wonder if this is why so many of us are attracted to streams, lakes, rivers, and oceans.  These bodies of water display the confident and uninterruptable nature of fluid motion that we all would like to achieve.  Our minds on the other hand can easily become disturbed – by our own thoughts, by other people, by our environment, and by constantly arising new circumstances.  Flowing water feels no need to stay within the field of resistance.

  • Let it Flow, Let it Flow, Let it Flow

The secret to achieving ‘Flow’ is to understand that what is flowing is Energy. Especially the high vibratory energy of Love. Love is the fuel that the Universe and all of Consciousness runs on, everything else is just fumes.

  • Holistic Intelligence – Don’t Settle For Anything Less

Limiting our understanding of Intelligence to IQ is, well, limiting. We need a more comprehensive understanding of personal intelligence. A more holistic understanding which captures the four major components of our human existence – the Mental, Emotional, Physical, and Spiritual. The model of holistic intelligence presented in this article does exactly that.

  • 20/20 Consciousness

I’ve thought at times that your level of consciousness is similar to the results of an eye exam.  The optometrist will have you look through the machine and place various filters (lenses) in front of your eyes until you can see clearly.  Some people require more adjustment to get to 20/20, some people less. So simple right, we all just need to get new “Consciousness Glasses” and move to 20/20. Well, not quite. But here’s how you can get to the clarity that you seek.

  • Move Over Power-Nap, Make Room for the 5-Minute Mini-Meditation

I have found that taking a 5-minute mini-meditation is all I need to bring my mind back to a tranquil state and regain my focus quicker after an interruption.  And in cases of finding answers to problems, the power of meditation allows me to calm the mind and more easily tap into universal consciousness for the answers during or shortly after the meditation break. The beauty of the mini-meditation is that it can be done anywhere – you don’t need to go to your “special meditation place”.

  • What-If?

What-If allows us to begin the process of imagination in a way that removes limits. In a world of too many choices, too much information, and too many ideas it’s easy to get stuck.  Our minds are readily able to (consciously and subconsciously) identify the reasons why something won’t work (or already has been done) rather than giving us the reasons it could happen.  Asking What-If sprays some lubricant on the creativity neurons to get them firing again and simultaneously lowers the flame of the amygdala – the seat of the fight or flight response in the brain – so that the more calm neocortex can do its work.

  • If the World were 100 People

The 100 People Foundation’s website www.100people.org is an amazing and wonderful effort to help us understand who makes up the 7 billion people on the planet at this time and the issues and challenges everyone faces (specifically – water, food, transportation, health, economy, education, energy, shelter, war, and waste).  It is one of the most interesting educational and social consciousness raising efforts that I have seen.

  • Step Out of Your Container

Don’t let whatever container that surrounds you, shape you. Our life circumstances, where we live, our particular job, the school we go to all have the effect of shaping us in unintended ways. When you put water in a container, a glass for example, it easily conforms to the boundaries of that container. Human beings (who ironically just happen to be made of up to 70% water), often end up experiencing the same thing. We need to fight those artificial restrictions and regain our fluidity and shapelessness. We need to outgrow the boundaries of our childhood and upbringing.

  • It’s None of My Business…

Someone’s reaction to you or more correctly, their perception of you or what you have done or said, is not simply a case of stimulus and response (though we should certainly pay close attention to sincere feedback and criticism).  It comes with a truck load of baggage. Baggage that is truly unique to that individual and clearly, None of Your Business…  Through this practice, we learn acceptance, non-attachment, and forgiveness.  We learn to not react egoically ourselves to people and situations  – to not take things personally.

  • Imperfection merely means Incompletion

If we view the current iteration of ourselves as a work in progress, an incomplete masterpiece being worked on if you will, then we can achieve a healthy level of self-acceptance that allows us to be fully present with who we are while still acknowledging the better version of ourselves we will one day become.

  • Mindfulness – Experiencing Reality in HD

Mindfulness at its core means Being in the Moment. This means we recognize that the past has already happened, the future doesn’t yet exist, and the only thing that IS, is the present moment. As we become more mindful, we realize the power of our thoughts. Our thoughts are constantly creating and manifesting our physical reality. When we start to master mindfulness, we become more intentional about our thoughts. We regain control of our minds, and in so doing, our lives.

  • Systems Thinking – the Missing Piece of the Puzzle

Systems Thinking is essentially another way to say “Look at the complete picture.” Any given topic, issue, or event has multiple inputs and outputs that influence its outcome, so our ability to grasp the big picture of the many challenges we face in the world today is paramount for us to understand and deal with them in an effective manner. You can see different parts intersecting, and you can make the connections to the overall whole. That’s what systems thinking is: seeing the interconnection among the small pieces and then perceiving how they create the big picture.
